He came from a family of bankers and soldiers but chose art instead, studying at Rome's Accademia di San Luca under Dario Querci and Francesco Podesti. He then joined the Rome studio of the Spanish painter Luis Álvarez Catalá, part of a circle of Spanish artists working in the city.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRosati is known for Orientalist scenes, the 19th-century European fashion for picturing North Africa and the Middle East: markets, horsemen, dancers, backgammon players and harem interiors, painted with crisp detail and bright costume colour. He worked mostly in watercolour and only occasionally in oil, and accounts of his life say he never travelled to the region he painted. He rarely exhibited and sold mainly through dealers; one recorded showing was an Oriental Scene in Rome in 1900.
