Wyeth (1882–1945) was an American painter and illustrator. Born in Needham, Massachusetts, he studied at the Massachusetts Normal Art School and the Eric Pape School of Art before joining Howard Pyle in the Brandywine Valley. His first commission was a 1903 Saturday Evening Post cover, and trips West fed a run of cowboy and Native American subjects. His illustrations for Scribner's Treasure Island (1911) paid for his house and studio at Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, and were followed by Kidnapped and The Last of the Mohicans.
