Puccini | Vintage Poster Print

In a snow-covered park, a woman in an ochre dress and maroon shawl leans into a man in a grey hat, his arm around her. Behind them, to the left, a man in a dark cap and blue jacket peers around a tree trunk with a pipe in his hand, and a woman in a pink dress and green shawl leans out from the next tree, mouth open. Sparrows peck at the snow. Large brown lettering names Puccini's La Bohème and the publisher Ricordi. Signed Hohenstein at left.

Adolfo Hohenstein (1854–1928) is often called the father of the Italian poster. Born in St Petersburg to German parents, he settled in Milan and in 1889 became artistic director of the Officine Grafiche Ricordi, where he trained a generation of designers including Leopoldo Metlicovitz. His posters for Puccini's La Bohème and Tosca and Mascagni's Iris, and for Campari, Corriere della Sera and Il Resto del Carlino, brought the flowing line of the Stile Liberty to Italian streets. He returned to Germany in the early 1900s.

Each print is made to our Archival Museum Standards: a 12-ink giclée, printed to order.
