Bold black lettering titles the sheet, followed by columns of verse.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAlexander Apsit (1880–1943), born Aleksandrs Apsītis in Riga, was a graphic artist and illustrator counted among the founders of the Soviet political poster. After studying in St Petersburg with Lev Dmitriev-Kavkazsky, he drew for magazines such as Niva, illustrated editions of Tolstoy, Chekhov and Gorky, and designed postcards and advertising posters. In 1918 and 1919 he produced some of the first Soviet political posters, including The Year of the Proletarian Dictatorship and To the Deceived Brothers, both of 1918. In 1921 he settled in Latvia, and from 1939 he lived in Germany, where he died.
