Apprenticed at fourteen to Jacopo Pontormo, he later became court painter to Duke Cosimo I de' Medici from 1539, a position he held for most of his career. His portraits of the Medici court are cool, polished and highly finished, presenting sitters with an almost glacial elegance and reserve very different from the emotional intensity of his teacher's work. His paintings are held by the Uffizi Gallery, the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence and the National Gallery, London.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eEach print is a giclée, printed to order.
