The dome of St Paul's rises on the left skyline among church steeples, with the long line of Old London Bridge across the distance. Rowing boats and a larger barge cross the grey-green water. On the terrace a man in a dark robe, a woman in a wide pale-blue skirt and a small dog pass beside a garden and a leafy tree.

King George III acquired this view in 1762 from Joseph Smith, British consul in Venice and Canaletto's friend and patron. It is the pendant to a view looking toward Westminster, and Royal Collection Trust suggests the pair was painted during a brief return to Venice in 1750-51, based on the Venetian canvas. Side by side they form one long panorama.

The original: oil on canvas, c. 1750-51; Royal Collection Trust, Windsor Castle.

Canaletto (Giovanni Antonio Canal, 1697–1768) was an Italian painter, born and died in Venice. He first worked with his father, Bernardo Canal, and his brother on theatrical scenery, including in Rome in 1718, and from about 1719 turned to topographical views, learning from the older view-painter Luca Carlevarijs. He is known for vedute, or cityscapes, of Venice, painted with accurate perspective and detail. He spent roughly the years 1746 to 1755 in England, painting views of London and the Thames, and also made etchings. His work is held by the Royal Collection, the National Gallery, London and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

Each print is a giclée, printed to order.
