A winged youth at the upper left, bare-shouldered with arrows at his back, looks down; a youth in a loose white shirt and red cloak holds a lute and looks out; a dark-haired figure behind turns to look out with parted lips; and at the right a boy seen from behind, his white drape slipping from a bare back, bends over a sheet of music with a red sash knotted at his waist. Grapes lie at the lower left and a violin and bow rest on more music at the bottom.

The original: oil on canvas, 1597; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

Caravaggio (Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, 1571–1610) was an Italian Baroque painter, apprenticed in Milan to Simone Peterzano before moving to Rome around 1592. He painted directly from live models without preparatory drawings, developing an extreme form of chiaroscuro, later called tenebrism, in which figures emerge from near-total darkness into a single sharp source of light. His frank naturalism and immediacy, applied even to religious subjects, influenced a generation of painters across Europe. His paintings are held by the Galleria Borghese in Rome, the National Gallery, London and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Each print is a giclée, printed to order.
