Larsson, Stockholm 1886, at lower right.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eLarsson moved into a house on Åsögatan in Stockholm's Södermalm district in the autumn of 1885 and painted this canvas there the following winter. The Nationalmuseum reads it as a realist statement that painting out of doors had to go on even in freezing cold. It was well received at the Paris Salon in the spring of 1886, where the Nordic winter was a novelty.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eCarl Larsson (1853–1919) was a Swedish painter. Born in Stockholm's Gamla stan, he entered the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts at thirteen and worked as an illustrator before moving to Paris in 1877. At the Scandinavian colony at Grez-sur-Loing he turned to watercolour and met the artist Karin Bergöö, whom he married in 1883. In 1888 the family settled at Lilla Hyttnäs in Sundborn, near Falun, and his watercolours of the house and their eight children, published as Ett hem (A Home) in 1899, made it one of the best-known artist's homes in the world. He also painted murals for the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, including Midvinterblot (1915).\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ePrinted as a museum-grade giclée on Hahnemühle fine art paper using 12-ink archival pigment printing.
