Along the top edge wait three horse-drawn carriages with yellow and orange wheels, one horse under a checked blanket. A grey-coated figure walks away beneath them, and a woman in tan stands by the last carriage. Broad red-orange letters read Harper's March across the grey, stopping at the woman's coat.

The original: lithograph, 1897; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

Edward Penfield (1866–1925) led the American poster movement of the 1890s. As art director of Harper's Magazine from 1891 he drew a new poster every month for six years, flat and economical compositions of well-dressed readers, cyclists and coaching scenes that owed as much to Japanese prints as to French lithography. He later illustrated books and designed calendars. His posters are held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Library of Congress.

Each print is made to our Archival Museum Standards: a 12-ink giclée, printed to order.
