White chrysanthemums with red outlines crowd the foreground, and a navy ground with patterned corners fills the frame. The title of the magazine runs across the top in red and navy capitals, and a line at the foot gives the price. Signed Ethel Reed.

The original: lithograph, ca. 1896; The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Ethel Reed (1874–1912) was an American illustrator and poster artist from Massachusetts, one of the first women to make her name in the American poster craze of the 1890s. Largely self-taught, she designed posters and book covers for Boston publishers between 1894 and 1897 — young women among flowers, in flat colour and elegant line, often with Japanese-inspired composition. She moved to Europe in 1897 and worked briefly in London before giving up art. Her posters are held by the Library of Congress, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

Each print is made to our Archival Museum Standards: a 12-ink giclée, printed to order.
