To its right a panel checked in red and yellow diamonds stands edged in blue, and to its left a wavy blue ribbon runs down over a yellow plane. A thin white line wanders down across the black, a dark blue disc and a scatter of grey dots sit at the upper right, and thin black lines outline overlapping rectangles.

Fernand Léger (1881–1955) was a French painter born in Argentan, Normandy. After early Cubist work in Paris he developed a style of tubular, machine-like forms; his service in the First World War, where he was gassed at Verdun in 1916, turned him towards the imagery of modern industry. In the 1920s his paintings set flat bands of pure colour against modelled cylinders, discs and figures, and he made the experimental film Ballet mécanique (1924). His work is held by the Centre Pompidou, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the Musée national Fernand Léger in Biot.

Each print is made to our Archival Museum Standards: a 12-ink giclée, printed to order.
