Flat black panels holding white and red dots line the right side, and bands of lemon yellow run behind the forms at the top and middle. Smaller red, orange and pale blue blocks gather at the centre, and a dark grey sphere with a light core turns at the left. Ladders of small white dots run along several bars.

Fernand Léger (1881–1955) was a French painter born in Argentan, Normandy. After early Cubist work in Paris he developed a style of tubular, machine-like forms; his service in the First World War, where he was gassed at Verdun in 1916, turned him towards the imagery of modern industry. In the 1920s his paintings set flat bands of pure colour against modelled cylinders, discs and figures, and he made the experimental film Ballet mécanique (1924). His work is held by the Centre Pompidou, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the Musée national Fernand Léger in Biot.

Each print is made to our Archival Museum Standards: a 12-ink giclée, printed to order.
