The canvas, about 2.5 metres square, is held by the Museum of Modern Art, New York.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eFrancis Picabia (1879–1953) was a French avant-garde painter, born in Paris to a Cuban father and a French mother. Trained under Fernand Cormon, he moved through Impressionism, Cubism and abstraction before becoming a central figure of Dada, founding the journal 391 in Barcelona in 1916 and continuing it with Marcel Duchamp in New York; he had exhibited at the 1913 Armory Show. He broke publicly with Dada in 1921 and worked briefly in a Surrealist vein before later series such as the Transparencies.
