His dark hair falls over his face as he bends into the struggle. The bodies are painted in pale greys and ochre against a mottled brown ground. The word SAMSON is lettered large at the upper left, and FRANZ STUCK is printed at the right.

Franz von Stuck (1863–1928) was a German Symbolist painter, sculptor and architect. He trained at the Munich Academy (1881–85) and settled permanently in Munich, where in 1892 he co-founded the Munich Secession. He built his own residence, the Villa Stuck (completed 1898), as a Gesamtkunstwerk with his own furniture and sculpture, and painted mythological and allegorical subjects, including The Sin (1893) and Wounded Amazon (1903); from 1895 he taught at the Munich Academy, where his students included Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee. His work is held by the Neue Pinakothek in Munich, the Alte Nationalgalerie in Berlin, and the Villa Stuck museum.

Each print is made to our Archival Museum Standards: a 12-ink giclée, printed to order.
