He arches back into her embrace, one arm reaching up across her body, his hand spread against her dark flank, his body lit warm brown against the dark. A band of hot red sky burns along the top and left edge; the rest of the canvas sinks into near black. The signature FRANZ STUCK is painted at lower right.

Franz von Stuck (1863–1928) was a German Symbolist painter, sculptor and architect. He trained at the Munich Academy (1881–85) and settled permanently in Munich, where in 1892 he co-founded the Munich Secession. He built his own residence, the Villa Stuck (completed 1898), as a Gesamtkunstwerk with his own furniture and sculpture, and painted mythological and allegorical subjects, including The Sin (1893) and Wounded Amazon (1903); from 1895 he taught at the Munich Academy, where his students included Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee. His work is held by the Neue Pinakothek in Munich, the Alte Nationalgalerie in Berlin, and the Villa Stuck museum.

Each print is made to our Archival Museum Standards: a 12-ink giclée, printed to order.
