Below, on a rock above dark green water between towering cliffs, Andromeda stands with her head turned away, white drapery falling from her hips and her long red-brown hair hanging down. The dragon arches over her with vast dark wings spread, its scaly grey body coiled around the rock and its head breathing fire at the right, an arrow already in its back.

Frederic Leighton (1830–1896) was an English painter and sculptor and one of the leading figures of Victorian classicism. Trained in Frankfurt, Rome and Paris, he made his name with Cimabue's Celebrated Madonna, bought by Queen Victoria in 1855, and went on to paint mythological and classical subjects of great formal refinement, among them Flaming June. He was President of the Royal Academy from 1878 and, shortly before his death, the first painter raised to the peerage. His house and studio in Holland Park is now the Leighton House museum, and his work is held by Tate and the Museo de Arte de Ponce.

Each print is made to our Archival Museum Standards: a 12-ink giclée, printed to order.
