A fan of white plumes rises from a pearl-beaded cap over blue curls, and red ribbons cross up her ankles from red shoes. Gold branches hang with strands of white dots on either side, and a white crested bird with a long trailing tail perches on a bough at the right. Signed at the lower left; a Costumes Parisiens plate of 1914.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eGeorge Barbier (1882–1932) was the leading illustrator of French Art Deco fashion. From 1912 his pochoir plates for the Gazette du Bon Ton, Falbalas et Fanfreluches and the couture houses of Paquin, Worth and Poiret drew on Persian miniatures, Greek vases and the Ballets Russes, setting slender figures against flat, saturated colour. He also designed for the stage and illustrated Verlaine and Louÿs.
