At the centre a pale-faced woman in a billowing gown and a dark jewelled headdress sits on a patterned cushion, attended by a figure in a checked robe and a woman in black furs, while faces peer from the top left corner and a sleeper lies at lower left. The title is a line from Alexander Pope's mock-heroic poem.

Harry Clarke (1889–1931) was an Irish stained-glass artist and book illustrator, born in Dublin, the son of a church decorator whose business he joined as a boy. He studied at the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art and made his name with eleven windows for the Honan Chapel at University College Cork (1915–17); later glass includes The Eve of St Agnes, after Keats, and the Geneva Window. As an illustrator he drew Andersen's Fairy Tales (1916) and Poe's Tales of Mystery and Imagination, whose 1923 edition made his reputation, drawing on Art Nouveau and French Symbolism. He died of tuberculosis at 41. His work is held by the Hugh Lane Gallery, the National Gallery of Ireland and the Wolfsonian in Miami.

Each print is made to our Archival Museum Standards: a 12-ink giclée, printed to order.
