High on the left of the rim a small boat tilts on the slope of water, while lower down a man clutches a barrel, a second cask rides the current below him and pale scraps of wreckage whirl in the dark. It is rendered entirely in black and cream, and illustrates Poe's A Descent into the Maelström.

Harry Clarke (1889–1931) was an Irish stained-glass artist and book illustrator, born in Dublin, the son of a church decorator whose business he joined as a boy. He studied at the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art and made his name with eleven windows for the Honan Chapel at University College Cork (1915–17); later glass includes The Eve of St Agnes, after Keats, and the Geneva Window. As an illustrator he drew Andersen's Fairy Tales (1916) and Poe's Tales of Mystery and Imagination, whose 1923 edition made his reputation, drawing on Art Nouveau and French Symbolism. He died of tuberculosis at 41. His work is held by the Hugh Lane Gallery, the National Gallery of Ireland and the Wolfsonian in Miami.

Each print is a giclée, printed to order.
