The plate illustrates Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eHarry Clarke (1889–1931) was an Irish stained-glass artist and book illustrator, born in Dublin, the son of a church decorator whose business he joined as a boy. He studied at the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art and made his name with eleven windows for the Honan Chapel at University College Cork (1915–17); later glass includes The Eve of St Agnes, after Keats, and the Geneva Window. As an illustrator he drew Andersen's Fairy Tales (1916) and Poe's Tales of Mystery and Imagination, whose 1923 edition made his reputation, drawing on Art Nouveau and French Symbolism. He died of tuberculosis at 41. His work is held by the Hugh Lane Gallery, the National Gallery of Ireland and the Wolfsonian in Miami.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eEach print is a giclée, printed to order.
