Its outer band is closely lettered in Latin and Hebrew, with the heading Naturam nosce (know nature) at the top. The plate is one of the large circular engravings of Heinrich Khunrath's Amphitheatrum sapientiae aeternae.

The original: engraving, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

Heinrich Khunrath (about 1560–1605) was a German physician and alchemist from Leipzig who took his medical doctorate at Basel in 1588 and practised in Hamburg, Dresden and Bohemia. His Amphitheatrum Sapientiae Aeternae (Amphitheatre of Eternal Wisdom), first printed in 1595 and enlarged after his death in 1609, joins alchemy, Christian Kabbalah and prayer. Its large circular engravings — the alchemist kneeling in his laboratory-oratory, the cosmic Rebis, the Kabbalistic rose — are among the most celebrated images of Renaissance esotericism. Copies are held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Wellcome Collection.

Each print is made to our Archival Museum Standards: a 12-ink giclée, printed to order.
