Short, distinct dabs of pure colour build the grass, foliage and sky in the Divisionist manner, and the artist's signature is worked into the grass at the lower left. Painted in 1908, the canvas now hangs in the Musée d'Orsay, Paris.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eHenri-Edmond Cross (1856–1910) was, with Signac, the artist who turned Neo-Impressionism towards pure colour. Born Henri-Edmond Delacroix in Douai, he moved to the Mediterranean coast in 1891 for his health and spent the rest of his life at Le Lavandou, painting pines, beaches and bathers in broad mosaic touches of violet, orange and green. His late canvases, freed from Seurat's small dot, were studied closely by Matisse and Derain in the summer that produced Fauvism.
