Below her chin, the astrological symbol for Venus, a circle over a cross, closes the composition. The sheet is signed in pencil at the lower right.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eHenri van der Stok (1870–1946) turned to art after fourteen years as a Dutch naval officer. Largely self-taught apart from lessons with Philippe Zilcken and Willem van Konijnenburg, he worked in The Hague as a painter, sculptor, stained-glass designer and printmaker, making etchings, engravings, lithographs and woodcuts. He won a silver medal for his woodcuts in Utrecht and exhibited at the 1925 Paris Exposition des Arts Décoratifs. His prints are held by the Rijksmuseum, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and the Victoria and Albert Museum.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ePrinted as a museum-grade giclée on Hahnemühle fine art paper using 12-ink archival pigment printing.
