The drawings were published in 1906 by L. Vandamme \u0026amp; Cie in Brussels, in a French translation by Henri-D. Davray, as a deluxe edition of only 500 copies. The 32 full-page plates are now considered the high point of Corrêa's career and among the most admired early illustrations of the novel.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eHenrique Alvim Corrêa (1876–1910) was a Brazilian artist who spent his working life in Belgium. He is remembered for the 132 illustrations he made for the 1906 Belgian edition of H. G. Wells's The War of the Worlds — tripods striding over Woking, panic on the Thames, the Martians themselves drawn as soft, appalling anatomy. Wells preferred them to every other treatment of his book. Corrêa died of tuberculosis at thirty-four.
