Large red lettering greets the sun at the top under a red banner with curling ends.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIvan Simakov (1877–1925), born in Kungur in the Perm province, was an architect, graphic artist, book illustrator and poster designer. He studied at the Academy of Arts in St Petersburg from 1903 to 1912, qualifying as an artist-architect, and lived and worked in the city all his life. In 1907 a book of his Pushkin illustrations was published, and in 1918 he worked on the People's Library series begun by Maxim Gorky. From 1919 to 1925 he worked for the Petrograd branch of the State Publishing House, producing about a thousand drawings for book covers, illustrations and posters.
