Grandville — Un autre monde: The Moon Painted by Herself | Engraving Print

A round-faced woman with her arms folded leans over a pair of mauve tasselled cushions that float in a grey sky. Below, a flat lake runs to a low wooded shore where one tall stand of trees rises above the rest, and in the water her round face shows again beside a white drape. Grasses, a flower and broad leaves fill the green bank in the foreground. The scene is engraved in fine parallel lines and lightly coloured on a cream page, with the French title printed below.

The original: hand-coloured wood engraving, 1844; National Library of Poland, Warsaw.

J.
