At the right a basket of grapes, apples and peaches stands near a large engraved gold dish propped on a carved chair, and a clock with a blue dial sits on a stone pedestal. A white napkin falls over the table edge, and a landscape opens at the far left behind a column.

The original: oil on canvas, c. 1640-41; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

Jan Davidsz. de Heem (1606–1684) was the most accomplished still-life painter of the Dutch and Flemish seventeenth century. Born in Utrecht and long resident in Antwerp, he joined the Dutch precision of glass, pewter and lemon peel to the abundance of the Flemish banquet piece, building flowers, fruit and insects into arrangements that are as much argument as display. His pictures were copied and imitated for a century. His work is held by the Rijksmuseum, the Mauritshuis, the Louvre and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

Each print is made to our Archival Museum Standards: a 12-ink giclée, printed to order.
