Beside her an angel with copper-gold hair, robed in white, crosses his arms on his chest, a single tall green wing rising behind him. A white dove descends from the top of the arched frame, and an open book lies on a desk draped in red-patterned cloth. A painted gold-ochre margin surrounds the miniature.

The original: a leaf from a book of hours, tempera and shell gold on parchment, made about 1485-1490; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

Jean Bourdichon (1457–1521) served for nearly forty years as court painter to four French kings, Louis XI, Charles VIII, Louis XII and François I, designing stained glass, coins and gold plate as well as painting panels and illuminating manuscripts. Charles VIII set up a workshop for him in his castle at Plessis-lès-Tours. Almost certainly a pupil of Jean Fouquet, from whom he learned the principles of Italian Renaissance painting, he is known today chiefly through his manuscripts, among them a book of hours in the J. Paul Getty Museum, his earliest surviving work.

Each print is a giclée, printed to order.
