Tapiró’ at the lower left.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eJosep Tapiró Baró (1836–1913) was a Catalan painter known for his watercolour portraits of the people of Tangier. Born in Reus, he studied there alongside his childhood friend Marià Fortuny, then at the Llotja school in Barcelona under Claudi Lorenzale and in Madrid with Federico de Madrazo. In Rome from 1862 he took up watercolour, and in 1871 he first visited Tangier with Fortuny. From 1876 he lived in Tangier, the first painter from the Iberian Peninsula to settle there, painting portraits of local figures and brides and scenes of religious tradition. The Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya holds his The Darcawi Holy Man of Marrakech (c. 1895).\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ePrinted as a museum-grade giclée on Hahnemühle fine art paper using 12-ink archival pigment printing.
