One long mustard glove reaches straight up, and the other lifts her hem. Her sleeves puff in shell pink, a deep red belt cinches her waist, and gold trim runs at her collar. A wash of pale green lies behind her on cream paper, and big blue letters name the Alcazar d'Été and Louise Balthy.

The original: colour lithograph, 1893; Bibliothèque nationale de France, Paris.

Jules Chéret (1836–1932) was the father of the modern poster. A trained lithographer, he set up his own press in Paris in 1866 and over the next four decades produced more than a thousand colour posters for theatres, dance halls, perfumes and lamp oil, populated by the laughing, airborne women Parisians called Chérettes. He received the Légion d'honneur in 1890 for creating a new branch of art. His posters are held by the Bibliothèque nationale de France and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.

Each print is made to our Archival Museum Standards: a 12-ink giclée, printed to order.
