jules-cheret-bains-de-mer-de-parame-vintage-poster-print
Jules Chéret — Bains de Mer de Paramé | Vintage Poster Print

From high above the sand, a long casino and a grand hotel run back along the shore toward a distant town, their roofs flying blue, white and red flags and their terraces shaded by red-striped awnings. Small figures stroll the promenade, rows of little huts line the beach, a few bathers wade in the pale green water and boats sit in the shallows. Huge orange-red letters arc overhead to name the Bains de Mer de Paramé, and an orange-red panel below announces the season.

The original: colour lithograph, 1886; Bibliothèque nationale de France, Paris.

Jules Chéret (1836–1932) was the father of the modern poster. A trained lithographer, he set up his own press in Paris in 1866 and over the next four decades produced more than a thousand colour posters for theatres, dance halls, perfumes and lamp oil, populated by the laughing, airborne women Parisians called Chérettes. He received the Légion d'honneur in 1890 for creating a new branch of art. His posters are held by the Bibliothèque nationale de France and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.

Each print is made to our Archival Museum Standards: a 12-ink giclée, printed to order.
