Beside him stands a man in a white tunic with red trim, red sash and cap. At the upper right two seated elephants tug at a man in cook's whites, and an elephant in spectacles reaches for a small cabinet. Red and black letters name the Folies-Bergère and Sir Edmunds.

The original: colour lithograph, 1877; Bibliothèque nationale de France, Paris.

Jules Chéret (1836–1932) was the father of the modern poster. A trained lithographer, he set up his own press in Paris in 1866 and over the next four decades produced more than a thousand colour posters for theatres, dance halls, perfumes and lamp oil, populated by the laughing, airborne women Parisians called Chérettes. He received the Légion d'honneur in 1890 for creating a new branch of art. His posters are held by the Bibliothèque nationale de France and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.

Each print is made to our Archival Museum Standards: a 12-ink giclée, printed to order.
