A tiara holds back dark hair that streams into a black cloud. A twisted rope hangs behind her head, circles her waist and winds round one shin, its end trailing below. The ground falls from deep green to peach.

The original: colour lithograph, 1882; Bibliothèque nationale de France, Paris.

Jules Chéret (1836–1932) was the father of the modern poster. A trained lithographer, he set up his own press in Paris in 1866 and over the next four decades produced more than a thousand colour posters for theatres, dance halls, perfumes and lamp oil, populated by the laughing, airborne women Parisians called Chérettes. He received the Légion d'honneur in 1890 for creating a new branch of art. His posters are held by the Bibliothèque nationale de France and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.

Each print is made to our Archival Museum Standards: a 12-ink giclée, printed to order.
