Her other hand is raised at her chest, thumb and finger pinched together, and long dark hair falls across her shoulder. A scaled white tail curls up at the left. Red letters with a black shadow arc across a grey-blue sky to name Lactéoline, a bath and toilet lotion.

The original: colour lithograph, 1884; Bibliothèque nationale de France, Paris.

Jules Chéret (1836–1932) was the father of the modern poster. A trained lithographer, he set up his own press in Paris in 1866 and over the next four decades produced more than a thousand colour posters for theatres, dance halls, perfumes and lamp oil, populated by the laughing, airborne women Parisians called Chérettes. He received the Légion d'honneur in 1890 for creating a new branch of art. His posters are held by the Bibliothèque nationale de France and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.

Each print is made to our Archival Museum Standards: a 12-ink giclée, printed to order.
