A red shawl with ragged fringes crosses her shoulders, a pale flower sits high in her hair and a cluster of small yellow beads hangs at her neckline. One red shoe kicks out behind her and the other points down between the words at the foot. Black and red lettering advertises Spanish dancers at the Montagnes Russes.

The original: colour lithograph, 1889; Bibliothèque nationale de France, Paris.

Jules Chéret (1836–1932) was the father of the modern poster. A trained lithographer, he set up his own press in Paris in 1866 and over the next four decades produced more than a thousand colour posters for theatres, dance halls, perfumes and lamp oil, populated by the laughing, airborne women Parisians called Chérettes. He received the Légion d'honneur in 1890 for creating a new branch of art. His posters are held by the Bibliothèque nationale de France and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.

Each print is made to our Archival Museum Standards: a 12-ink giclée, printed to order.
