Lines of verse fill a panel at the upper left.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe original: a painting on paper from a manuscript of the Khamsa (Quintet) of Nizami, about 1494–95; British Library, London.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eKamal ud-Din Behzad was a Persian painter active in Herat under the Timurid sultan Husayn Bayqara (r. 1470–1506), working first for the poet and statesman Mir Ali-Shir Navai and then for the sultan, under the workshop director Mirak Naqqash, who had raised and trained him. His paintings for a Bustan of Sa'di dated 1488, in the National Library of Egypt in Cairo, show balanced compositions, clear space and figures with mood and personality, and his name became a byword for the painter's skill in Persian and Mughal tradition. He spent his last years in the service of Shah Tahmasp at the Safavid court in Tabriz, where he died in 1535–36. Paintings linked to him are in the British Library, among them scenes from a Khamsa of Nizami of 1494–95, and in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eEach print is a giclée, printed to order.
