Violet shadows ring her blue eyes and her lips are coral red. Below the neck her whole body becomes a field of overlapping watercolour circles, spirals and blots in turquoise, red, yellow, blue, green and pink, scattered with tiny blue dots, while a dark olive ground shows at the top corners. The initials KW are painted at the lower left.

Karl Wiener (1901–1949) was an Austrian graphic artist. Based in Vienna from 1937, he worked chiefly in political and socially critical photomontage for social-democratic publications, work for which historians have compared him to John Heartfield, and he taught at the Kunstgewerbeschule from 1940 to 1947.
