Each wears a peach-orange apron with a twisted cord and yellow fringe, and the nearer man's fingers hang spread above the ground, which is flecked with black specks beside a line of straw. Two columns of names are lettered at the top above a pale blue-grey sky; a brushed signature and a seal sit at the lower right.

Katsushika Hokusai (1760–1849) is the most widely known of all Japanese artists. Over a seventy-year career he worked under some thirty names, produced books, sketches and paintings by the thousand, and in his seventies designed the Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, including The Great Wave and Red Fuji, which reshaped landscape printmaking and later European art. He called himself the old man mad about drawing. His prints are held by the British Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

Each print is a giclée, printed to order.
