kazimir-malevich-composition-with-two-equal-and-parallel-rectangles-art-print
Kazimir Malevich — Composition with Two Equal and Parallel Rectangles | Art Print

A small square outlined in black sits at the centre of a broad cream sheet. Inside it, two equal black rectangles stand side by side near the top. Below them a long black line runs almost the full width, crossed near its right end by a short diagonal stroke, while a short vertical bar rises from the lower edge of the square toward it. Plain cream paper surrounds the image on every side, and the black is printed with a slightly broken, grainy edge.

Kazimir Malevich (1879–1935) was a Russian avant-garde painter. Largely self-taught, he worked through Impressionist, Symbolist and Cubist idioms encountered mainly through reproductions before introducing Suprematism in 1915, a radically non-objective style built from pure geometric forms on plain grounds, announced by his painting Black Square. His late work returned intermittently to figuration under pressure from Soviet cultural policy, but it is the Suprematist paintings, reducing composition to interacting planes of colour, that mark his central contribution to abstract art. His paintings are held by the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Museum of Modern Art, New York.

Each print is made to our Archival Museum Standards: a 12-ink giclée, printed to order.
