His hands repeat in a row of stepped positions as they hold a blade toward the pale grey wheel at the lower right, and his feet repeat on the treadle below. A moustached face looks down from beneath a cap. To the right, a staircase of grey and white steps climbs toward the top edge; at the left, rust, yellow and blue blocks crowd the space.

Kazimir Malevich (1879–1935) was a Russian avant-garde painter. Largely self-taught, he worked through Impressionist, Symbolist and Cubist idioms encountered mainly through reproductions before introducing Suprematism in 1915, a radically non-objective style built from pure geometric forms on plain grounds, announced by his painting Black Square. His late work returned intermittently to figuration under pressure from Soviet cultural policy, but it is the Suprematist paintings, reducing composition to interacting planes of colour, that mark his central contribution to abstract art. His paintings are held by the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Museum of Modern Art, New York.

Each print is made to our Archival Museum Standards: a 12-ink giclée, printed to order.
