At the left two columns of running script and the painter's signature are brushed beside three red seals, one above the text and two below the name.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eKim Hong-do (1745–c. 1806), known by his art name Danwon, was a Korean court painter of the Joseon dynasty from the jungin, or middle, class. He studied as a boy with the painter and critic Kang Sehwang, entered the royal Bureau of Painting in his early twenties, and in 1771 painted the crown prince, the future King Jeongjo; he was a favourite of Yeongjo and Jeongjo. He painted landscapes, Buddhist and Daoist themes, portraits, flowers and animals, but is known above all for humorous, lively genre scenes of ordinary people at work and leisure, gathered in the album Genre Paintings by Danwon. He is counted among the Three Wons of Joseon painting.
