Long white bodies banded in blue and in yellow loop across the sky, and grey clawed legs reach out at the upper corners. Below, two figures, one in a dark-blue robe and a red-topped cap, one in pale green, stand in a red boat flying an orange pennant. A green crag and a dark rock rise at lower left, and a column of characters runs down the right edge.

The original: painting, ink and colour on paper, late 19th to early 20th century, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

Much Korean painting of the Joseon dynasty (1392–1910) survives without an artist's name. Painters of the royal Bureau of Painting and others made screens and scrolls of birds and flowers, landscapes and the Four Gentlemen, plum, orchid, chrysanthemum and bamboo, for palaces and scholarly households, while Buddhist painters made taenghwa, hanging icons of buddhas and assemblies of deities for temple halls, passing their models down through stencils. In the eighteenth century true-view landscape turned to real Korean places such as the Diamond Mountains, and genre painting to everyday life. Examples are held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Cleveland Museum of Art and Minneapolis Institute of Art.

Each print is a giclée, printed to order. Unframed prints are made on Hahnemühle German Etching, a 310gsm matte fine-art paper.
