Painters of the royal Bureau of Painting and others made screens and scrolls of birds and flowers, landscapes and the Four Gentlemen, plum, orchid, chrysanthemum and bamboo, for palaces and scholarly households, while Buddhist painters made taenghwa, hanging icons of buddhas and assemblies of deities for temple halls, passing their models down through stencils. In the eighteenth century true-view landscape turned to real Korean places such as the Diamond Mountains, and genre painting to everyday life.
