Two lines of white script cross the red upper margin.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe original: gum tempera, ink and gold on paper, about 1830–40, The Cleveland Museum of Art.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eKota school is the painting of Kota in southeastern Rajasthan, a state formed in the 1620s from part of Bundi, whose painters shared Bundi's idiom; an early painter who specialised in elephants and hunts moved from Bundi to Kota. Hunting became Kota's signature: large scenes of the Maharaos facing tigers, lions, boars and wild elephants in steep, densely wooded jungle, drawn with a fluent line and sparse colour, often from life. Kota artists also painted portraits, ragamalas and devotional pictures of Krishna in his Brijnathji form. Painting had a last flowering under Ram Singh II in the mid-nineteenth century and had disappeared by its end. Examples are held by the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Minneapolis Institute of Art.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eEach print is a giclée, printed to order.
