A large dark house with a snow-laden roof glows from lit windows and an open doorway where figures stand. A man stands at the head of a horse hitched to a small sleigh; nearer, more sleighs heaped with fur rugs and crates wait on the trampled snow, a man bending over the farthest. A lantern pools light on the drifts at the left, and a white building with a small bell tower stands at the right under a deep teal sky.

Nasjonalmuseet in Oslo bought the painting in 1896 with the surplus from that year's State Art Exhibition.
