An angel at the left blows a long golden trumpet towards the earth, where four figures rise from the cracked brown ground, three of them pressing their hands together. The scene sits inside a pale blue letter C wrapped in orange, green and cream acanthus, on a field of black penwork sprays dotted with gold.

The original: a cutting from an antiphonary, a choir book, painted in tempera and gold on parchment in Italy about 1406–7. It is held by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

Lorenzo Monaco, born Piero di Giovanni, was a Florentine painter of the early fifteenth century who took the name Lorenzo on entering the monastery of Santa Maria degli Angeli in Florence. Known chiefly for altarpieces and frescoes, he is also thought to have designed miniatures for illuminated manuscripts, and later ran a large workshop outside the monastery. His softly modelled figures and bright colours against gold grounds can be seen in the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the National Gallery of Art in Washington.

Each print is a giclée, printed to order.
