A frame of twelve round zodiac signs in brown on gold surrounds her, between four corner panels of vine leaves, red roses, grapes and holly berries. Bold plum capitals across the top name the poster calendar, and the year 1897 stands large below. The artist's signature sits at the lower right of the picture, and a small copyright line dated 1896 runs along the foot.

The original: lithograph, 1896; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

Louis Rhead (1857–1926) was an English-born American artist, illustrator and author. Born into a Staffordshire pottery family, he studied in Paris under Gustave Boulanger and at the National Art Training School in South Kensington, and worked for Minton and Wedgwood before moving to New York in 1883 as art director for the publisher D. Appleton. In the 1890s poster craze, influenced by Eugène Grasset, his work appeared regularly in Harper's, The Century, St. Nicholas and Scribner's, and in 1895 he won a gold medal at the first International Poster Show in Boston. He later illustrated children's classics and wrote American Trout-Stream Insects (1916).

Each print is made to our Archival Museum Standards: a 12-ink giclée, printed to order.
