Her orange robe is scattered with yellow butterflies, with a blue sash at the waist, and her bare feet hang over a green ledge beside a blue fan. Tall sunflowers rise behind her under a pale sky, with sun rays fanning from the top edge. Cream calendar panels for April, May and June flank her, and the signature Louis Rhead is at lower right.

The original: lithograph, 1896; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

Louis Rhead (1857–1926) was an English-born American artist, illustrator and author. Born into a Staffordshire pottery family, he studied in Paris under Gustave Boulanger and at the National Art Training School in South Kensington, and worked for Minton and Wedgwood before moving to New York in 1883 as art director for the publisher D. Appleton. In the 1890s poster craze, influenced by Eugène Grasset, his work appeared regularly in Harper's, The Century, St. Nicholas and Scribner's, and in 1895 he won a gold medal at the first International Poster Show in Boston. He later illustrated children's classics and wrote American Trout-Stream Insects (1916).

Each print is made to our Archival Museum Standards: a 12-ink giclée, printed to order.
