Trained as an architect in Munich and Dresden, he switched to poster design, and by 1925 had produced some 3,000 advertisements for clients including Kaffee Hag, Pelikan and Munich's Hellabrunn zoo, whose 1912 leopard poster is still reissued. He joined the Nazi party in 1933 and worked extensively for the regime.
