A black-and-white chevron frame holds yellow bands of lettering that invite viewers to pin the map on the wall, with borough arms at the edges and corners, the arms of London at top, and an imprint scroll at lower right naming Gill and The Westminster Press.

Gill drew the Wonderground Map for the London Underground; commissioned by Frank Pick, it was hung at every station to promote the system, presenting an accurate map with a humorous side in cartoon style. Issued in poster form, it was also sold to the public and proved very popular.

Leslie MacDonald Gill (1884-1947), known as MacDonald or Max Gill, was a British graphic designer, cartographer, artist and architect, born in Brighton and the younger brother of the Arts and Crafts figure Eric Gill. His Wonderground Map of 1914, commissioned by Frank Pick to promote the London Underground, hung at stations and was sold to the public. He also designed the standard upper-case lettering used on headstones and war memorials by the Imperial War Graves Commission. His illustrated maps have featured in exhibitions at the British Library, the University of Brighton and the London Transport Museum.

Printed as a museum-grade giclée on Hahnemühle fine art paper using 12-ink archival pigment printing.
